Curriculum Planning

One of the outstanding benefits of SmallCatechism.org’s materials in its flexibility. Series 1 outlines provide an outstanding framework for catechesis, while easily allowing other insights and materials from instructors. Users report excellent experience using Series 1 as their main instruction guide for the Small Catechism.

Others find Series 2 to be an excellent introduction to Luther’s Small Catechism. It is designed to be simple but informative…for students 6th grade and up. It can be used in  online format (with self-correcting quizzes) or printed out and used in a class setting. BOTH are included with the purchase of Series 1 and 2.

Series 1 and 2 may be used independently or together. View SmallCatechism.org’s suggest curriculum at http://smallcatechism.org/Small%20Catechism.org%20Suggested%20Curriculum.pdf

Handbell Music…On A Budget

Whether because of good stewardship or because of tough economic conditions, churches often look for inexpensive ways to provide to provide quality materials for ministry.

CreativeHymns.com Handbell area has over 20 simple songs for one, two and three-octave handbells. Written for Level 1 (beginners) and Level 2 handbell or handchime choirs, these original arrangements can be performed after just one or two practices. For extra flair, several come with option keyboard/organ accompaniments.

Each anthem is only $2.00 each and may be duplicated as many times as needed within the church. Given that many handbell anthems cost $2.00 or more for just ONE copy, this may be a great opportunity for your church to build ministry on a string.

Confirmation Activities: The Commandments

Recently I, with other church leaders, had the privilege of visiting Crossroads Pregnancy Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan. As they described their Christian pro-life ministry, they shared God’s blessing and work through their center.

Several times a year, my confirmation classes go on various field trips to experience various community ministries. I will certainly add this to the schedule for our congregation’s confirmands. As a result, they will be exposed to many things not learned in public shcools: abstinence, why to choose life, how to witness to their friends, and how Jesus can help them in every situation.

Consider this for your confirmands!

Coming Soon!

“Teach Yourself The Catechism” is the tentative resource planned for release in early August. Not meant as a substitute for Pastoral mentoring, this resource is being released to address a variety of needs of the Church.

Timing of Curriculum

Those who begin Confirmation in the Fall (mid-September) will find that the Small Catechism.org curriculum is designed to give an opportunity to teach the Apostles’ Creed (specifically the Second Article) during Lent.

This is intended to help the students gain a greater awareness and understanding of Jesus’ suffering and death for us…as well as the victorious joy of His resurrection.

God bless your catechesis!
